Highfield Bed and Breakfast Ambleside - B&B in Cumbria - the Lake District

The Lake District National Park is a treasure house for naturalists, geologists, historians and all to whom superb landscapes appeal. The area contains some of the most magnificent scenery in England owing to the concentration of beautiful lakes and high peaks. It is an ideal holiday center with opportunities for walking, climbing, cycling, fishing and sailing. There are also tennis courts and a putting green a few minutes walk from the house.  There is also a public swimming pool at Troutbeck Bridge approximately 3 miles away.

Ambleside and Lake District Attractions and Activities
Walking and Climbing - Fairfield Horseshoe, Red Screes, Wansfell Pike, Loughrigg Fell and a beautiful circular walk to Grasmere all start from the house, with the Langdale and Coniston fells reachable in a short time by car or public transport.

Parks - There are two parks in Ambleside, both with picnic areas. Rothay Park is near the river, and Borrans Park near Lake Windermere, with lovely views over the lake to Claife Heights. There is also direct access from the park to Galava, the Roman fort and settlement.

Churches - There is a Roman Catholic, Church of England and a Methodist Church all within walking distance from the house.

Windermere Lake Cruises - Steamers and launches sail daily throughout the year.

- A unique and historic collection of Lake Windermere nautical heritage.

Hayes Garden World - Set amidst beautiful scenery, one of Britain’s finest garden centres.

The Armitt - Ambleside's Gallery, Museum and Library - Experience 2000 years of local history.

Rydal Mount and Gardens Near Ambleside - Nestled in the picturesque village of Rydal, with its small church, unique waterfalls and famous hills. “The most beloved home of Wordsworth”.

Dove Cottage and Wordsworth Museum, Grasmere - Beautifully preserved Grasmere home where England’s finest poet William Wordsworth wrote his best loved poetry.

Hill Top, Near Sawrey
- Beatrix Potter wrote and illustrated many of her famous children’s stories in this little 17 th century farmhouse.

Ullswater Steamers - Walking, cycling or just relaxing, Ullswater steamers are the perfect way to enjoy the Lake.

Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway - From Haverthwaite Station steam locomotives go to Lakeside with connections to Windermere Lake Cruises.
